"... a general purpose, personnel, or cargo carrier especially adaptable for reconnaissance or command, and designated as 1/4-ton 4x4 Truck."

The original Jeeps were a product of WWII, and a real work of art and functionality. It's too bad they don't still offer such a simple, versatile, no-frills, compact, lightweight, and supremely functional vehicle. But until they do, you can still get the modern version, in the Jeep Wrangler and it's many variations... all of which evolved from the original concept.
This is my second Jeep. It's a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon (the Rubicon models come from the factory with a few notable off-road features, including locking front and rear differentials, a 4:1 transfer case, and skid plates). Having the roominess of four doors is a bonus, and the longer wheelbase is nicer for most conditions.
I still would rather have a modern reproduction of the original Jeep design, but this will do for now.
